About Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Background Information - mission statement

Before a dentist can apply to a competitive Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency he or she has to show serious interest and skill in the surgical environment. To become an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon then requires up to 6 additional years of hospital based surgical and anesthesia training after dental school. After completing the residency program, many surgeons will then take an examination to be classified as Diplomates of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

As a board certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, Dr. Craig McDow DMD, MS, manages a wide variety of problems relating to the mouth, teeth and facial regions. He practices a full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with expertise ranging from Cosmetic Facial Surgery to Corrective Jaw Surgery and Wisdom Tooth Removal. Dr. McDow also diagnoses and treats Facial Pain, Facial Injuries and TMJ disorders, and performs a full range of Dental Implant procedures. Our facility, San Francisco Oral Surgery and Implantology, is a modern, state of the art AAAHC accredited surgical center.
